Portland’s deep freeze is expected to continue Monday with high winds, sunny skies and a high near 27 degrees.

Persistent winds of 15 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour, are expected to whip across the region, according to the National Weather Service, bringing the real feel down to single digits.

The agency issued a wind advisory for the metro area that remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the strongest winds near the Columbia River Gorge and in Portland’s West Hills.

Monday marks the third day of deadly cold for the region. Highs Saturday and Sunday reached just 21 and 23 degrees. Portland hasn’t seen such a sustained stretch of cold weather since 2017, when highs reached 28 or 29 degrees for four consecutive days.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Tuesday.

Tuesday’s high is expected to remain below freezing and rain or freezing rain is in the forecast. Up to an inch of snow and sleet is possible, with ice accumulation up to three-tenths of an inch.
