PM Update: Teens for low in spots tonight ahead of a cloudier Thursday

It’s the third day in a row that D.C. hasn’t risen above freezing, something that has not been done since January 2018, when there were four in a row. While temperatures probably get above that mark tomorrow, it may not be by much. Before that, it will be another very cold one tonight. Beyond, there’s another chance of snow starting Thursday night.

Through tonight: We’re mainly clear into the evening with some increase in high clouds through the night. Lows range from about 10 to the upper teens or around 20 across the region. Temperatures probably drop rapidly with dark given light winds and snow cover. Lows may come early, before clouds increase late. Winds are light out of the southwest.

Tomorrow (Thursday): Any sunshine is mainly in the morning. We’ll see increasing clouds through the day, and it’s largely cloudy by late afternoon. Highs make a run at the mid-30s or so. Winds blow from the south around 5 to 10 mph.

Snow from space: It’s been a while since a widespread snowstorm included our area. Also rather unusual: a great view of much of the snow stripe.

Snow cover is plentiful today from eastern Oklahoma through the central Mississippi Valley (which stands out quite impressively!), across Tennessee, the central Appalachians, then through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Another stripe of snow can be seen beneath high clouds from the central Plains of Kansas to the Great Lakes.
