Billy Crystal Seen Outside Rob Reiner’s House Wiping Away Tears Following Director’s Death

Video has emerged of a tearful Billy Crystal leaving the home of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele after they were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday after an apparent homicide.

The Daily Mail newspaper on Monday published footage of an emotional When Harry Met Sally star and his wife, Janice, walking inside of a police cordon that surrounded the Brentwood neighborhood home of Reiner, a close friend. The short footage shows Crystal wiping away tears from his face as he and wife walk outside the home.

Crystal and Meg Ryan starred in director Reiner’s 1989 romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally, screenwriter Nora Ephron’s ode to true love that was based loosely on her and Reiner’s lives.

People had reported that Crystal and Larry David visited Reiner’s home shortly after the reports of the deaths of their friends. A neighbor told ABC News that the two comedians stayed briefly and Crystal “looked like he was about to cry.” The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to a rep for Crystal.

Reiner, 78 years of age, and his wife Michele, 70, were found dead in their Brentwood home on Sunday by Los Angeles police, Their son Nick Reiner is reportedly a suspect in the murder investigation being led by LAPD Robbery Homicide Division detectives.

A spokesperson for the Reiner family said in the wake of the tragedy: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

In an entertainment industry career that spanned seven decades, Reiner made his name as an actor in the hugely successful sitcom All In the Family before finding even greater success as a filmmaker, directing classics such as This Is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride, Misery, A Few Good Men and Stand by Me, among many others.
